8,035ish Days

I wish I had a cat. Perhaps next year, when I live in an apartment that allows pets. *wishes for a kitten* :)

Sick Day / Snow Day

I awoke this morning feeling absolutely dreadful, and after a quick phone call I learned that my throat culture from yesterday turned up positive for strep. At least now I know what's wrong with me and I can start feeling better as the antibiotics work their course. I then called my manager to tell him I wouldn't be making it to work this evening or tomorrow. It's good, in a way, that our town is under a winter snow advisory at the moment. It's been snowing all day and we've got quite a bit of accumulation and drifting. With the snow and road conditions, not too many people will be headed out to their local pharmacy, so hopefully my presence will not be missed at work.

I've been confined to my bed and the couch the whole day, with random excursions into the kitchen for comfort food. I also tried to entertain myself by taking pictures out the door and my window of the growing piles of snow. When Shannon (one of my roommates) got home this evening, she showed me pictures from her journey to campus and back again. I picked a good day to be sick, it seems.

A Lake in the Italian Alps...

"I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we only will tune in."
~ George Washington Carver

While I'm not entirely sure of my religious/spiritual beliefs at this point in my life, I do know that I feel the most connected to something when I surround myself with nature. I've been lucky enough in my life to see some amazing places (mostly thanks to geology), and I can't help but feel overwhelmed by the pure beauty and power of it all. The natural world is truly incredible, and I can never get enough of it.

Random Rant and Rave

Rant: TMC only carries the local cider in the Fall. I've been craving really good cider for about a week now, so I was a tad disappointed when the cashier informed me that they do not have it now. Had to settle with hot chocolate instead (which I then proceeded to spill all over my leg).

Rave: Donnie and I finished our 2-hour physics lab 45 minutes early! Even though we had some issues (missed part of the directions and then our string snapped), we still managed to pull through and leave with a large chunk of time left. Yay!

Edit: (Adding to the rave) It is gorgeous outside today!!

Should have stayed in bed today...

Today was one of those days where staying in bed would have been much more pleasant than getting up. I had a terrible dream last night, and tossed and turned the rest of the time. Once I got up this morning, I went to start my day as usual with a cup of white chocolate caramel cappuccino and a bowl of frosted mini-wheats. The only thing out of the ordinary was that I poured water onto my cereal rather than milk. Oiy. I also found out today that I did not get funded for an assistantship at the one school that has accepted me so far.

On the plus side of things, Erik was there as usual for hugs and I had a pleasant evening at work. So, I shall leave you with a picture of the lovely flowers from Erik on Valentine's Day (which, by the way, was the first time any guy has ever given me flowers).
